MY PATH TO YOGA
As a hairdresser I spent my late 20's and early 30's feeling constantly exhausted, agitated and anxious. It was my normal default mode. Always chasing the next thing that would make me happy once and for all. I had a restless mind that wouldn't quieten down.

I can thankfully say that, as I write this, I finally feel more balanced. Yoga has allowed me to calm down, centre and find peace by focusing my thoughts and becoming attuned to my body and mind.

You too can do this!

It all starts today, with the decisions we make. Learning to relax and let go in the modern world is not easy but it is so important.

I first discovered the benefits of yoga after suffering from sciatica. Yoga helped me heal without having to resort to medication which was a real eye opener. I believe that yoga is an approach to life that can help everyone on both a physical and emotional level. In my case, apart from making my body stronger and more flexible, yoga has also helped me manage anxiety and stress.

AWARENESS
Yoga is a continuous journey and, as such, I continue to learn and grow through my own practice.

The practice of yoga is a "work-in", rather than a "work-out": it grounds us emotionally and spiritually and therefore allows us to to make progress in our lives and to deal with our own unique challenges and setbacks along the way.
"Your body exits in the past and your mind exits in the future. In yoga they all come together in the present" B.K.S Iyengar

QUALIFICATIONS
I am an Iyengar Yoga instructor in the Marlow and Henley-on-Thames area.

Having started practicing yoga in my early 20's, I first become qualified as a vinyasa flow instructor (RYS 200) in 2013.

I then started practicing Iyengar Yoga and was taught by Uday Bhosale and Sheila Haswell, both senior Iyengar Yoga teachers. Iyengar Yoga, due to its focus on very precise body alignment, gave me a much deeper insight into the workings of asana (yoga postures).

As a consequence, I started my 2-year Iyengar yoga teacher training with my teacher and "guru" Sheila Haswell (CIYT). This involved over 150 hours of practical tuition and, in addition, theory including anatomy, asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques). I also assisted Sheila twice a week during my last year of training.

In the summer of 2019 I got certified by the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.
ONLINE YOGA CLASSES
IYENGAR YOGA
Iyengar yoga classes emphasise precision and alignment. Quality of movement is prioritised over quantity. You learn to move with ease in your body while working within your limitations. This makes the yoga postures (asanas) safe to perform.

Yoga postures are held for longer than in some other methods, allowing tight muscles to lengthen and relax, and helping to focus awareness. Yoga props such as blankets, blocks and belts may be used to improve your understanding of poses or to help if you have difficulties.
"Yoga is a light, which once lit, will never dim. The better your practice the brighter your flame"
